• Actinomycetes and soil microbial diversity, Biotransformation of combined industrial effluent microbes for bioremediation of hydrocarbons, Breach of Rhizobium legume specificity, Molecular basis of MPS phenotype, Halophiles, Plant anti-microbials.
• Genetic determinants of cancer and congenital disorders, Molecular marker of male infertility, Glucose transporters in diabetes, Probiotics, Neurobiology of Epilepsy and diabetes.
• Protein stability, folding, misfolding and aggregation.
The Institute has 8 core faculties with diverse expertise in biological sciences and all of them are active researchers, of which six are recognized Ph.D. guides. Ph. D admission is conducted as per UGC rule.

Eligibility:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, BHMS, BAMS, Physiotherapy, and others with minimum 50% marks and the selection will be based on the merit of entrance test to be conducted by th the Institute on 12 May, 2013 at Ahmedabad. If large number of students are applying from other states, accordingly new centers may be created and announced.

Number of available seats are advertised twice a year in April and December (Tentative). Selection will be made on the basis of Entrance Test (If the number of applications is large), Presentation of Project proposal and Interview.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant holding Master’s Degree or equivalent in the concerned field with 55% or equivalent grade is eligible. If the applicant has passed the qualifying examination from University other than Nirma University, he/she will be required to obtain eligibility certificate from Nirma University. Admission to Undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) courses - 2013
The candidates seeking admission to MBBS/BDS course – 2013 in the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU must register themselves by applying directly to the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences in the prescribed application form downloaded from the BHU & IMS website (www.bhu.ac.in / www.imsbhu.nic.in ) along with the prescribed fee. However, the admission will be done strictly on the basis of their merit in the NEET – UG 2013 examination.
The fee for registration for UG Courses will be Rs.1000/- for General and OBC and Rs.600/- for SC & ST candidates.
All candidates eligible for NEET – UG 2013 are eligible for registering themselves irrespective of their State of domicile.
The downloaded application form along with the draft in favour of “Director, IMS, BHU
payable at Varanasi must reach the office of the IMS Directorate latest by 15th April 2013 by registered/speed post only.
The applications received after the last date on any account including postal delays will not be registered.
The candidates who have registered for admission to MBBS/BDS course 2013 must submit their score card of NEET - UG 2013 within 15 days after declaration of their results to the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
Tentative counseling for admission of UG courses (MBBS/BDS) will be held on 4th July 2013.
Individual letters to the successful candidates based on their rank in the 4EET - UG exam.2013 will be sent by Registered Post/Speed Post giving the exact date of counseling. The candidates are advised to check the BHU/IMS websites from time to time for up-dates.
For 15% seats of total 84 MBBS seats i.e. 13 seats, candidates would be admitted through All India quota (for central counseling) and the remaining 85% i.e. 71 seats will be filled up through IMS, BHU counseling. The distribution of the 71 seats amongst the different categories is as follows:
General - 36, OBC- 19, SC - 11 & ST - 05 Total - 71 seats.
2 seats- 3% reservation of PC candidates will be given horizontally as per Government of India norms.
Of total 50 BDS seats to be filled up through IMS, BHU counseling, the distribution of  the seats amongst the different categories is as follows:
General - 25, OBC - 13, SC - 08 & ST - 04 Total - 50 seats.
1 seat - 3% reservation of PC candidates will be given horizontally as per Government of India norms.
Those students who have not registered with the Director, IMS, BHU will not be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS courses 2013 through IMS, BHU, counseling. However, mere registration does not guarantee admission to MBBS/BDS courses 2013.
Admission to Postgraduate (MD/MS) courses – 2013
The candidates interested in seeking admission to MD/MS courses in the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU should register themselves by applying in the prescribed application form downloaded from the BHU & IMS website (www.bhu.ac.in / www.imsbhu.nic.in ) along with the prescribed fee by demand draft in favour of Director, IMS payable at Varanasi and a copy of NEET - PG 2013 score card by 15th April 2013.
The applications received after the last date on any account including postal delays will not be registered.
The prescribed fee is Rs.1500/- for General and OBC candidates and Rs.1000/- for SC& ST candidates.
In case the results of NEET - PG 2013 are not declared before submission of the application form, a copy of the score card should be sent to the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi within 15 days of the declaration of the result.
Tentative counseling date for admission of PG courses will be in the last week of May. The exact date will be displayed on our IMS website within 15 days after declaration of the NEET - PG 2013 result.
Total number of MD/MS seats - 134
50% of total seats i.e. 67 are to be filled up through All India and the remaining 50% seats i.e. 67 to be filled through IMS, BHU counseling.
Of these 67 seats, 42 seats will be allotted preferentially to Institutional candidates in accordance with the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The remaining 25 seats will be distributed amongst all other eligible candidates who have registered.
All seats will be allocated strictly according to the merit in NEET – PG 2013. All candidates eligible for NEET – PG 2013 are eligible for registering themselves irrespective of their State of domicile. The number of seats and the subjects may vary.
THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT REGISTERED WITH THE DIRECTOR, IMS, BHU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION TO MD/MS COURSES 2013 THROUGH IMS, BHU COUNSELLING. HOWEVER, MERE REGISTRATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO MD/MS COURSE 2013.

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore offers admission to its four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Programme in 2013. Students who will appear for the 12th standard board examination (or equivalent) in 2013 and those who have passed this examination in 2012 are eligible to apply for admission to this Programme. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has invited applications for admission to the four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S) Programme for 2013. The four-year BS Programme is organized into eight semesters. The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project. The major disciplines available in the BS Programme are Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials, Mathematics and Physics. The batch of students joining in 2013 will graduate in June 2017.
Students specializing in any of the above disciplines will have to take a set of prescribed core and elective courses in the chosen discipline. They will also take courses in Engineering, Humanities and Inter-disciplinary areas for a well-rounded learning experience. While a student specializes in a major discipline, he/she can also broaden his/her knowledge and skills by taking courses in other disciplines. Students who take a sufficient number of designated courses in a discipline other than their major will qualify for a ‘minor’ in that discipline. The combination of courses taken by a student will be listed in his/her Degree certificate.
Applicant should have completed their II PUC / 12th standard in 2012. Those who are expecting to complete their II PUC / 12th standard in 2013 are also eligible to apply. Applicant must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects during their II PUC / 12th Standard. Those who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply. The candidates must have secured a first class or 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) in the II PUC / 12th standard examination.
About 120 students will be admitted to the Programme. Seats will be allotted to general and special categories as per Government regulations. Reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC/ Physically-Handicapped (PH) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates will be as per Government of India regulations, and following the National List. The Institute uses the merit lists of existing highly competitive national level entrance examinations such as KVPY, IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced) and NEET-UG for admission to the BS Programme. Students desirous of applying to the BS Programme must take at least one of these above examinations.
Under the KVPY scheme, those in KVPY-SA (appeared in 2011, and selected for the Fellowship), KVPY-SB (appeared in 2012 and selected for the Fellowship), KVPY-SX (appeared in 2012 and selected for the Fellowship) and KVPY Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates are eligible. Under the IIT-JEE-Main stream, those appearing in 2013 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL) and 30% (SC/ST/PH) are eligible.
In the IIT-JEE-Advanced stream, those appearing in 2013 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL) and 30% (SC/ST/PH) are eligible. In the NEET-UG stream, those appearing in 2013 and getting selected in the main merit list are eligible for admission to the BS Programme.
The selection will be based on the performance of the candidates who have applied in any one of the National level examinations listed above. A separate merit list of candidates who have applied will be prepared for each of these national examinations and the seats will be offered based on the performance in the examination and the number of seats available. A candidate who has qualified in multiple examinations listed above will be included in all the appropriate merit lists. Separate merit lists will be prepared for candidates belonging to different reserved categories, as per standard Government of India regulations.
Application can be submitted only online. The online application may be submitted by at the IISc website www.iisc.ernet.in/ug up to 30th April 2013. The application fee is Rs. 400/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH categories. This can be paid online using Net-banking, Visa Card/ Master Card, Debit/Credit Cards. Offline Payment through SBI/Canara Bank branches using Challan is also available. The bank service charge is extra and has to be borne by the applicant.
As the first step, the online application is to be completed by following the specific instructions provided at the website for receiving applications, on or before 30th April 2013. Specific instructions for filling the online application form are available at the UG website http://www.iisc.ernet.in/ug.
Applicant should click on the ‘online application link’, to open the ‘Admissions 2013’, page and then click on the ‘Instructions for filling the Application Form’, link to read the instructions or to download a file that contains the instructions. Online Applications will be accepted up to April 30, 2013.
The first set of admission offers will be made to KVPY candidates in May 2013. The next set of admission offers will be announced in the middle of June 2013. More offers for admission will be made in July 2013. Candidates who are offered admission will be invited for mandatory day-long counselling sessions at the Institute. Classes will commence on 1st August 2013.
The annual Tuition Fee is Rs.10,000/-. Other fee and deposits are also there. Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY, IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and NEET-UG, students will be able to avail themselves of the standard fellowships offered by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE. Those who travel to the Institute for attending the counselling are eligible for reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the place of residence to the Institute, both ways. Those travelling to the Institute for joining the Institute are eligible for reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the place of residence to the Institute one way. A duly filled-in TA form with journey tickets should be submitted to the Admissions Unit, within 15 days of joining the Institute. Beyond this period, no claim will be accepted.

There are two options available for payment of entrance fees
1. Payment through Demand Draft(DD)
2. Payment through Payment Gateway i.e. Credit / Debit Master / Visa cards. Instructions for payment are given on home page. Kindly note that the candidates opting for this payment mode should not send his form to this office. Instead he/she should carry the form at the examination hall along with TWO passport size photographs
Completed application form must be accompanied by CET MEVST/MGI-2013 fee of Rs. 1200/-.
