III. ELIGIBILITY
1)      Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. in  Genomics
A Bachelor's degree in any branch of Life Sciences (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics or equivalent), Physical and Chemical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry), Medicine, Veterinary and Agriculture from any recognized Indian or Foreign University, with 55% marks or equivalent are eligible to apply.  Students with B.Tech. Degrees in Biotechnology, Computer Science, Information Technology and Bioinformatics with Biology at +2 level are also eligible.
                  Note:  A minimum of 40% seats will be allocated to candidates from out  side Tamilnadu State (Residence and Institution)
2)      M.Sc. (Microbial Gene Technology) (M.Sc.(MGT))
      A Bachelor's degree in science courses where Biological Sciences – Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Microbial Technology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, and etc- is either a Major or an Ancillary subject.  Students from professional courses such as MBBS, B.VSc., B.D.S, B.Pharm, B.Sc.(Agriculture) and related subjects from a recognized Indian or Foreign University are also eligible.
3)      M.Sc. (Biochemical Technology) (M.Sc.(BCT))
A pass in B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Genetics/Nutrition and Dietetics/ Microbiology/ Biology/ Botany/ Zoology/ Chemistry / Medical Laboratory Technology/Triple major with Biochemistry and allied subjects.
4)M.Sc. (Sub-Aqua Marine Ecology & Toxicogenomics)(M.Sc.(SAM& TG))  
        Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in any branch of Life Sciences-Biology/ Biochemistry/ Botany/ Zoology/ Marine Biology/ Microbiology/ Bio-technology of a recognized Indian or Foreign University are eligible. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 55% marks in the subject.                                                                                         
     5)    M.Sc. (Electronics & Instrumentation)
A pass in B.Sc.-Physics, Electronics, Applied Science,  Electronics & Communication,   Instrumentation  or  Computer  Science  or  any  other  B.Sc,  degree  with  Physics  or  Electronics as ancillary subject.
     6)    M.B.A. – (Master of Business Administration)
                A pass in any Bachelor's degree
    7)    M.B.A. (Hospital Administration)
                A pass in any Bachelor's degree
     8)   M.C.A. – (Master of Computer Applications)
i)                    Graduate in any discipline with Mathematics as compulsory subject at 10+2 level             
Or
     ii.         Graduate in Computer Science / Computer Applications / Software / IT
The candidates who have not studied Mathematics at +2 level but having studied the subjects:
(i)                  Business Mathematics
(ii)                Business Mathematics & Operational  Research
(iii)               Operations Research
(iv)              Business Mathematics and Statistics
(v)                Numerical Methods and Mathematics
 only at graduate level are not eligible to apply.
9)   M.A. (Administrative Studies)
             Any bachelor Degree (10+2+3 / 10+2+Agri. / Engg. / Medicine) of any                University recognized by the UGC.                                                                
IV.COURSE REQUIREMENTS
                           a)     Candidates should have studied under 10+2+3 or 10+1+4 or 10+3+2     
                                   pattern
                           b)     Candidates who are undergoing the VI Semester/III year (Non-               
                                    Semester ) of the U.G.course are eligible to apply for P.G. courses.
c)     The candidates should have successfully completed the course at the     
        time of admission.
         V.   PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING FILLED-IN    APPLICATION 
                FOR ADMISSION
1)            Applicants are requested to read carefully the rules of eligibility and  other  
            instructions given in the prospectus.
2)            Applicants who are willing to apply for more than one course should use separate application form for each course.
   3)      Registration Fee
Each course
Rs.600/-
 
        4)            Instructions for filling-up the application.
i)        The entries in the application form should be made by the applicant in their own hand writing legibly in ENGLISH only.
ii)  Details of the xerox copies of the certificates to be enclosed along with the application form should be in English version and the same be furnished in the relevant column of the application.
        5)     Enclosures to be sent along with the filled-in application.
          The candidates have to submit xerox copies of the following certificates  
          duly attested by a Gazetted Officer along with the application form.   
          Original certificates should not be sent.
             i)      SSLC, HSE mark statement
ii)            U.G./P.G degree Marks statement / Grade certificates/ Provisional  
         Certificate
iii)          Community Certificate obtained from Tahsildar/ Deputy Tahsildar       concerned. Otherwise it will not be taken into account.
iv)          Income Certificate obtained 3 months prior to the date of advertisement (for SC/ST/Blind candidates only) from the competent issuing authority.
v)            Certificate of Physically Handicapped / Leprosy cured: Candidates who want them to be considered under the Physically Handicapped category should submit the certificate obtained from an authorized Medical Officer of the specialty concerned not below the rank of Civil Surgeon together with photograph showing the nature of handicap.
                                                                          
vi)          Sports Certificate: Candidates who want them to be considered under the Sports category should produce a certificate obtained from the concerned University Physical Director in Form-I/II/III for having represented the State / Inter-University tournaments / athletics.
vii)        Ex-servicemen Certificate: Certificates to be produced
viii)      +2 marks statement (compulsory)
ix)          The candidates should fill-up the hall-ticket and NRI/sponsored certificate (if applicable) attached to the application and send along with the application.
x)            Two self addressed, stamped envelopes, each for Rs.10/- should be enclosed
xi)          A Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj University, payable at Madurai towards registration fee as prescribed by the University should be enclosed. SC/ST candidates are exempted from the payment of Registration Fee for only one course.
xii)        Demand Draft towards registration fee as prescribed by the University should be enclosed with each application.  For SC/ST candidates, the exemption from payment of Registration fee is applicable only for one course and with additional applications; Demand Draft towards registration fee as prescribed by the University should be attached with each application.
The Demand Draft should have been obtained after the date of notification and on or before the last date notified for receipt of filled-in application.
Note: Cheques, Postal Orders, Money Orders and cash will not be accepted.
Students should write their name, complete address and course for which applied in Block letters on the reverse side of the demand draft.
Registration fees, once paid, will not be refunded, adjusted or transferred under any circumstances.
            xiii)   Filling with any    wrong information or suppression of information may 
                      result in punitive action.
xiv)      Certificates other than those required need not be enclosed
xv)        The application form without the Xerox copies of relevant certificates will not be considered.
xvi)      All the columns in the application should be filled-in. Incomplete application will be rejected.
      6.      Photograph
   Two recent passport size photographs of the applicant should be affixed; one on   the column provided in the application form and the other in the   Hall-Ticket.                                                      
VI. SUBMISSION OF FILLED-IN APPLICATION
                a)  Applications defective in any particulars will summarily be rejected.
                b)  Filled-in application should be sent on or before   the last date specified to

VII. SELECTION PROCEDURE
A.     The selection of candidate is based on the marks in the Entrance Test conducted by   Madurai Kamaraj University and the short-listed candidates will be called for 
         Seminar presentation and Interview conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University at  
         Madurai  for the following courses:
              
               1.     Integrated M.Sc. Ph-D in Genomics
               2.     M.Sc. Microbial Gene Technology
               3.     M.Sc. Biochemical Technology
  B.       The selection of candidate is based on the marks in the Entrance Test 
             conducted by  Madurai Kamaraj University  for the following courses:                 
   1.     M.Sc. Sub-Aqua Marine Ecology & Toxicogenomics
   2.     M.Sc. Electronics and Instrumentation
  C.      The selection of candidate is based  on the  marks  in the Entrance Test conducted by  Madurai   Kamaraj  University  and  the  short - listed  candidates  will  be  called for Group Discussion &  Personal Interview   conducted by Madurai  Kamaraj  University at  Madurai for the following courses:
           1         M.C.A. - Master of Computer Applications
       2.        M.B.A. - Master of Business Administration
       3.        M.B.A. - Hospital Administration
       4.        M.A. Administrative Studies
D.                This University reserves the right to change the Selection Procedure.
Reservation Policy
Tamilnadu Government Reservation Policy will be strictly followed for admission to these courses.
Publication of selection
Selected candidates will be intimated individually by post.  The list of Register Numbers of selected candidates will also be published in the University website / displayed on the Department Notice Board.                                                                                                                                                      
VIII.                         ENTRANCE TEST
        
1.      Applicants seeking admission for  these  courses are required to appear for  
                     the Entrance Test to be conducted by the Madurai Kamaraj University.
2.   The entrance test will be of objective type for a period of 100 minutes.
                  3. Mere appearance for the entrance examination does not mean that                                the candidate is eligible for admission.
4.   Entrance Test Centres:

5. Course Outlines for Entrance Test
          a.   Integrated M.Sc – Ph.D in Genomics
                        The Entrance Test will have components of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics at Bachelor degree level.
                        Studentship: Students selected for admission for M.Sc. Genomics course will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs. 1,200/- p.m. till the completion of IV Semester.
                        Ph.D Enrollment & Eligibility for Admission
                        On the day of completion of the final examination of the fourth semester, counseling for Ph.D. admission will be conducted.  During counseling, the students are expected to express their interest and commitment for continuing in the Ph.D. programme.  Among the 24 students, who have completed two years of PG programme, 15 students would be enrolled for immediate Ph.D registration based on their cumulative academic performance in the first four semesters.  This selection will be made during the month of May every year.  The waitlisted candidates will be enrolled if vacancy arises within three months (i.e. on or before August of that year).
                        Students can enroll for their Ph.D as per the rules and regulations of Madurai Kamaraj University.  Candidates can submit their Ph.D. thesis after the completion of three years with other course requirements (please refer the Ph.D. guidelines of Madurai Kamaraj University).
                        Guide Selection
                        The student can choose their research supervisor in the School of Biological Sciences based on their area of interest.  Counseling will be done with a committee constituted for the purpose to assess the interest of the candidates, willingness of the guide and to streamline the selection process.  If students, wish to continue their Ph.D. work with the same supervisor where they have completed their fourth semester project work that would be favourably considered by the committee.  However, the cumulative score obtained in the four semesters would be the major criterion for the candidates to select the guide.  The selected candidates would be enrolled for Ph.D. as per the research guidelines of Madurai Kamaraj University.
                        Fellowship
                        The fellowship for the students admitted to Ph.D. will be Rs. 12,000/- p.m. + 15% HRA + MA (Rs. 14,150/- p.m.) for first two years and Rs. 14,000/- p.m. + 15% HRA + MA (Rs. 16,450/-) for the third year.
                        Ph.D Guidelines
                        Those registered for Ph.D., should undertake a course work on Research Methodology and another paper in the area of Specialization offered by the Research Supervisor.  This could be completed in the fifth semester.
                        At the end of third year the students will appear for the Research Methodology exam as per the regulations of University.  Students can submit their Ph.D. thesis 2 years after their completion of Research methodology exam. Every year, students are required to give 2 research project progress presentations in the School.  The award of the subsequent year fellowship is based on the recommendations of the supervisor and assessment Committee.
                        Madurai  Kamaraj University’s Ph.D. guidelines and regulations are applicable for the Integrated Ph.D. course in all other aspects that are not specified here.
                                                                                                                                  
b.      M.Sc.(Microbial Gene Technology)
The Entrance test will have components of Microbial Technology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Nanobiology at Bachelor Degree level.
                 c.    M.Sc.(Biochemical Technology)
                        The entrance test will have 50% components of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology in Bachelor Degree level and another 50% components on all aspects of science as General Knowledge.
                d.     M.Sc.(Sub-Aqua Marine Ecology and Toxicogenomics)
The entrance test will cover the areas of Marine Biology, Coral Reef Ecology, Marine Pollution & Toxicology, Marine Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology and Biotechnology at the undergraduate level.
                e.      M.Sc.(Electronics and Instrumentation)
The entrance test will cover Electronics, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science at ancillary level.
f.       M.B.A – (Master of Business Administration)
The entrance test will cover English Comprehension and Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation and Business and Economic awareness.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
g.   M.B.A – (Hospital Administration)
The entrance test will cover English Comprehension and Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation and Business and Economic awareness.
                                               
h.   M.C.A - Master of Computer Applications
The entrance test will cover 30% components of Mathematics at the 10+2 level, 20% components of logical reasoning/analytical ability at the level of bachelor's degree, 10% components of proficiency in English at the level of Bachelor's Degree and a component of knowledge of computers and computer application at introductory level constituting 40%.
i.     M.A. Administrative Studies
The entrance examination will be of objective type with four components namely
 General Awareness on Science and Technology, Freedom movement,    Indian
Culture and Society, Industrial Development and Globalization for 25   marks,
Current events of national and international importance for 25 marks, Proficiency in
English for 25 marks and Mental ability and power of reasoning   for 25 marks.
X.  GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1)      No candidate can undergo more than one course (full-time) at a time during the academic year and no one can take more than one examination at the same time.
2)      In all communications addressed to the University the course applied for and the registration number should be specified.
3)      The University reserves the right to suspend any course or cancel any Test/Test Centres without assigning any reason.
4)      The University will not be held responsible for any delay or loss in postal and any other modes of transit.
5)      The decision of the University shall be final in all cases of admission.
6)      The selected candidate should meet the Prof. & Head  of the Department concerned on or before the stipulated date and time and submit the following original certificates along with Xerox copies of the certificates only to the Head of the Department at the time of admission for the purpose of verification:
(i)           SSLC,HSE mark statement
(ii)         Consolidated Statement of Marks / Grade certificate and provisional certificate.
(iii)       Transfer certificate
(iv)       Conduct certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
(v)         Community certificate
(vi)       Income certificate obtained 3 months prior to the date of advertisement (for SC/ST/Blind candidates only)
(vii)     If selected under special category, the relevant certificate.
(viii)   Such other certificates, as may be required by the University
(ix)       In the case of candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from  other Universities, they should produce the Eligibility Certificate obtained from the Madurai Kamaraj University at the time of admission.
(x)         All admissions made will be Provisional till the certificate, statement of marks / grades etc., submitted by the candidates are scrutinized and accepted.  If any candidate is found to have got admission on false claim, the admission will be cancelled without any prior notice.
                     7.   After  that  the  candidate  should  remit the prescribed fee (refer Prospectus annexure-A    for  fees  details)  in the form of  Demand  Draft  in favour of  the  Registrar,  Madurai   Kamaraj  University   from  any  bank  payable  at Madurai and submit together with all certificates.
8.      The  waiting  list  candidates  will  be  informed  about  their  position  in  the   waiting  list for admission and they should meet the Prof. & Head  of the    Department  concerned on specified date, time and place, failing which the candidate will forfeit the seat against vacancies, if any.
9.      Vacancies, if any, will be filled in from among the waiting list candidates reporting for selection strictly in the order of merit and there is no guarantee for admission.
10.  Waiting list candidates, who are selected, will have to remit the fees on the same day. No extension of time shall be granted for payment of fees under any circumstances.        
                                                           
11.  Otherwise, the admission will automatically stand cancelled and the candidate will have no claim for admission to the course.
12.  The candidate awaiting the mark-sheet should furnish the consolidated statement of marks to the Head of the Department within 10 days from the date of publication of results and in any case not later than 31st August, 2013.    In case the candidate fails to secure the minimum marks prescribed for admission as per the regulations, will forfeit the seat allotted as well as the fees paid.
13.  This University is not responsible for non-publication of results of any University/Institution.  
  1. Any request to change the course and transfer of fees will not be entertained.
15. No TA/DA will be paid to any candidates under any circumstances.
16.  Tuition fee and special fees as admissible by the Government will not be collected from the SC/ST candidates at the time of admission.
17.   Tuition fee and Special fees as admissible by the Government will not be collected from the physically Challenged candidates at the time of admission.      
18.                        Other States students are treated as 'Other Communities'.
19.                         No Candidate will be permitted to take the Entrance Test  
      without Hall Ticket
                                     
XI. SCHOLARSHIPS
                        1.   The eligible candidates belonging to backward class and Most Backward class
                              can apply for scholarship to the Government of Tamilnadu.
2.      The eligible candidates belonging to SC/ST communities can apply for   scholarships to the Government of Tamilnadu and the Government of India.
     3.    The eligible blind candidates can apply for scholarship to the Government of  
            Tamilnadu.
XII.   HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
   Separate Hostel facilities are available for men and female students in the University    Campus at Palkalainagar, Madurai 625 021.
            Those who need Hostel accommodation in the University campus may approach the Warden of the respective Hostels after completing admission formalities. Application form for requesting Hostel accommodation will be available in their respective Hostels.                                                                                                               
XIII. NRI/FOREIGN STUDENTS CATEGORY

A limited number of seats are available under NRI / Foreign students category for the following courses:

             1.  Integrated M.Sc. –Ph.D. in Genomics
             2.  M.Sc. Microbial Gene Technology
             3.  M.Sc. Biochemical Technolohy
             4.  Master of Computer Applications
             5.  Master of Business Administration

Students who wish to apply under NRI / Foreign students category may download the prospectus and application form.  Duly filled-in downloaded application may be forwarded to the Registrar by paying US$ 200/- by a demand draft drawn in favour of THE REGISTRAR, MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY payable at MADURAI towards the application and registration fee.

NRI students may also request the Head of the Department for the hard copy by paying US$ 200 by way of the demand draft towards the application and registration fee.
Selection of NRI/ Foreign candidates will be based on the marks secured in qualifying Examination.

The following certificates are to be produced by the candidates under NRI/Foreign category:

1.       Valid passport of the sponsor with foreign visa (should be related)
2.       NRI Status certificate in the country of stay of the sponsor
3.       NRI Statement of Bank account / Bank pass book of the Sponsor
Bio-Entrepreneurship Quota is available in the course M.Sc. Microbial Gene Technology (M.G.T.)
